Melanotan 1 is a linear thirteen-residue analogue of alpha-MSH with norleucine at 4 and D-phenylalanine at 7; Melanotan 2 is a seven-residue analogue closed into a ring by a lactam bond between aspartate and lysine side chains. Masses 1646.9 and 1024.2. Both carry one tryptophan and are stored dark.
